Someone has said, "Too many Christians worship their work, work at their play, and play at their worship." Let's talk about worship with particular references to "psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs."
I. Let Us Explore the Command.
A. The "peace" command. 3:15a
1. Personal-"one body called."
2. Congregational-"one body called."
B. The "praise" command. 3:15b
1. Spontaneous praise. Exodus 15:1f; 1 Samuel 10:5-6
2. Temple praise. 1 Chronicles 15:16f; Psalm 150:1f; 2 Chronicles 5:11-14
3. Synagogue praise-cantor, a cappella.
4. Christ's praise. Mark 14:26
5. Church praise. Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19
a. Based on doctrine-"Let the Word dwell."
b. Free in declaration-"Sing."
c. Open to diversity-"psalms, hymns, songs."
d. Clear in direction-"to the Lord."

God's will, God's Word and God's worship may sound a little spiritual to some people. But Paul is extremely practical when he turns his attention to "whatever you do." That just about covers everything!
I. "Whatever You Do."
A. The significance of small things-"whatever."
B. The relevance of "word and deed."
1. Word without deed-lacks credibility.
2. Deed without word-lacks clarity.
C. The importance of the mundane.
1. The "whatevers" of church life. 3:12-14
