While "Thanksgiving" is a special time for all segments of the population, Christians teach that each day should be characterized by thankfulness. The reasons for this need to be clearly understood.

I. The Reasons for Thankfulness.

A. A sense of privilege. vv. 12-13
1. Qualified for an inheritance.
2. Rescued from the darkness.
3. Translated into the Kingdom.
4. Liberated through His death.
5. Forgiven for all sin.

B. A sense of purpose.
1. Knowing God. v. 10
a. Knowing through reputation.
b. Knowing through observation.
c. Knowing through association.

2. Knowing God's will. v. 9
a. Appreciating the will of God.

Part 6: Dear Old Dad

Sociologists tell us that the weak link of the family is the "father child relationship." Scripture tells us that the father is in some way a reflection of our God Who chooses to be known as Father. Dear old Dad clearly has his work cut out!

I. What Do the Sociologists Say About Dear Old Dad?

A. Mother/child relationship is close, how to integrate Dad?
B. Dad must volunteer to be identified.
C. This volunteering is commitment to provide.
D. Lineage and inheritance are thus established.
E. Dad represents family to society and vice versa.
F. This produces "remoteness" which can be advantageous.
G. Sense of "awe" conducive to respect, direction and order.
H. Dad assists in necessary "weaning" process.
I. Domestic/occupational tensions can be extreme.

II. What Do the Scriptures Say About Dear Old Dad?

A. Dad and the kids.
1. He must not exasperate them. Ephesians 6:4
By being:
a. Inconsequential.
b. Inconsistent.
