Deuteronomy 16:1-17

God's instructions concerning the good life in the Promised Land included information about holy days. Their importance and significance were clearly explained and warnings were given about their possible abuse.

I. Divine Instructions Concerning Holy Days.

A. General instructions. See Leviticus 23:1
1. Appointed feasts.
2. Sacred assemblies.
3. Sabbath commands. Deuteronomy 5:12-15

B. Specific instructions.

1. Weekly Sabbaths.
a. Blessed by God-an expression of concern.
b. Declared holy-claimed by God.

2. Annual Passover and Unleavened Bread. vv. 1-8 (Mar. - Apr)
a. Re-enact the Passover.
b. Remember the Exodus.

3. Annual Feast of Weeks. vv. 9-12 (May - June)

Part 10: The Place of Worship

Deuteronomy 26:1-15

In England the proper title for a mayor is "his or her worship, the mayor." This has nothing to do with religions, it simply means the mayor is a person of worth and therefore worthy of respect. To worship God is to intelligently and joyfully treat him with the respect he deserves.

I. To Worship Is to Make a Statement.

A. A statement of appropriation. v. 3
1. The Lord promised to give…
2. I have come to the land.

B. A statement of appreciation. vv. 5-10
1. Appreciation for spiritual heritage. v. 5
2. Appreciation for personal redemption. vv. 6-8
3. Appreciation for temporal blessings. vv. 9-10

C. A statement of adoration. v. 15
1. You shall rejoice in all the good things.

D. A statement of anticipation. v. 15
1. We look up to him in our need.
