Introduction: The demand for properly trained leaders with the right attitude, proven character, spiritual DNA, and a desire to serve and sacrifice is before us all the time. Sometimes the demand greatly exceeds our ability to provide. Leaders are always in need of more qualified people to step up. How do we keep our pipeline full of developing excellent leaders and servants? There is one factor we know for sure. We have to grow them ourselves internally, right here and right now. To grow our churches we must grow our leadership base and our servant base to match our vision and our structure to fulfill that vision. We must all change as how we approached things in the past may not at all work for the future.

I. THE DEVELOPING GROWTH STAGES OF A LEADER

A. THE CHRIST CHARACTER STAGE

1. Finding Christ as Savior and Lord of our life is always the first step in our development. We must have a total encounter with Jesus as Lord and a total surrender of our life to Christ.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

2. The forming of a Christ character is also the forming of what future leaders must have in order to become a great leader.

Philippians 2:22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.

B. THE GIFT IDENTIFICATION STAGE

1. A spiritual gift is the supernatural enabling of the Holy Spirit which equips a Christian for his/her work of service and ministry.
