In The Beginning God (2 of 8)
Series: What is His Name?
Pastor Jeff Schreve
Genesis 1:1-3
An elderly woman came into the country church she had never been there before and the usher met her at the door and he was just so gracious and so kind and said to her "Madam it is so great to see you" and he said to her "Can I help you find a seat?" And she said "Yes." And he said "Where would you like to sit?" She said "I'd like to sit on the front row." And he looked at her and he just kind of whispered he said "I don't think you want to do that. See our Pastor, Pastor Smith, he's a nice man but he's very boring. I would encourage you to sit in the back." She looked at him and she said "Do you know who I am?" He said "No." She said "I'm Mrs. Smith, the Pastors mother." He said "Oh. Do you know who I am?" She said "No." He said "Good!" It pays to know who you're talking to. "What am I going to say to the children of Israel Lord when they ask me what is Your name?" And the subtitle for this series is this "Finding Strength and Deliverance in the Powerful Names of God." I hear from people quite frequently who just feel so overwhelmed with life and people who feel so disconnected from God because they have failed God and they just think "I don't think God likes me anymore and I don't think I can really get close to God anymore" and they're just kind of drifting and they're kind of floating and they need strength from God and they need deliverance from God. And the Lord does that as we get to know Him as we study and get to know His name. You know God has many, many names in the Bible. Some people say "Why are there so many names for God?" It's because God is so GREAT. ...
