How many people in here, little confession time, how many people in here have ever had the unpleasant experience of getting a speeding ticket, anybody? Look at all you law-breakers all over the place. I have had that experience. It's no fun when you're just driving along and all of a sudden you hear a siren behind you. You see lights. Or you're driving too fast and you see the policeman as you come up the hill, and you're like, "Oh, busted!" you know, just that horrible feeling.
A few months ago I was driving to Houston and I think I was talking on the phone or something and I wasn't paying enough attention to the speed limit signs. And I thought I was doing about 70, you know, 72 or whatever. And all of a sudden I see the lights and I hear the siren and I get pulled over. I'm like, "Oh!" And the guy says, to me, "Do you know how fast you were going?" I said, "I think I was doing about 70." He said, "You were doing 72." I said, "That's good, right?" He said, "Well, it's a 55." I said, "Well, it must have just changed because it was just 70." He said, "Well, back a little ways it changed to 60 and now it's 55, and you're speeding, license and registration." Our relationship wasn't starting off very well. So I gave him my license. And he looked at it. He looked at me and he goes, "You're a pastor, aren't you?" I said, "Is it that obvious? I mean, do I just look like that? Most people think I'm a bouncer." I said, "Okay, Yes." He said, "You're at First Baptist, aren't you?" And I said, "Yes." And he says to me, "My sister goes to your church." And I'm thinking to myself, I don't know who your sister is because you haven't told me, but I think she's wonderful.. He said to me, "My sister wouldn't forgive me if I gave her pastor a ticket." And I thought to myself, Nor should she. (Laughter) And he said, "Pastor, you need to go slower. You need to watch the speed limit signs ...
