Well, I think a lot of people in here can remember that in 1984, Wendy's came out with a commercial. And in their commercial they used a lady. She was in her 80s. She was 4?11" tall. Her name was Clara Pellar. And she asked the famous question, "Where's the beef?" Do you remember that, "Where's the beef?" It became such a catch phrase in 1984; Walter Mondale used it in his debates with Gary Hart when they were going back and forth. And he said, "Yeah, but where's the beef?" We're going to talk tonight about "Where's the beef?" And to get us focused on where's the beef, we want to look again at this commercial from 1984.

Now we got that off the Internet, so it's not that you're going blind. It just wasn't very clear. But, "Where's the beef?"
Hey, Peter, in 2nd Peter chapter 1, he asked the question, "Where's the beef?" Hey, he was writing to a people in Asia Minor who were experiencing an infiltration of false teachers. They preached a message that theologians call an insipient form of Gnosticism. Gnosticism comes from the Greek work gnosis, which means to know. And these were guys who said, "Hey, we really know some things. We are the super Christians. We are the elite Christians. You are the second-class Christians. We really know." And in their system of Gnosticism, it didn't matter how you lived. They said that matter was evil and only the spirit was good, so it didn't matter if you participated in all kinds of sins. And Peter says, "That's a bunch of baloney." He said, "Hey, listen. If you claim to be a Christian, if you supposedly have Christ living inside of you, then where's the beef? Where is the evidence? Where is the fruit? Where is the spiritual growth? It's the same thing that James said in James chapter 2 and verse 17, where he said, "Even so, faith, if it has no works, is dead being by itself."
