Yogi Berra, he's a household name in the world of sports. Yogi Berra played baseball for the New York Yankees. He was a catcher for the New York Yankees. And then he became a manager. He's in the Hall of Fame. But Yogi Berra is not known as much for his baseball really as he's known for the dumb things that he has said. Yogi is a person who has the grasp of the obvious, and he's a guy that can just take a phrase and butcher it and make it so funny, not trying to be funny, but that's just the way he comes across. There is a whole book of phrases from Yogi Berra. They're called Yogisms. You can find them on the Internet.
Here are some things that Yogi Berra has said with a straight face. He's not trying to be funny. He said this: "If you don't know where you're going, you'll wind up somewhere else." That's pretty good. He said this: "Always go to your friends? funerals; otherwise, they will not go to yours." It could be because they're dead, but he's thinking ahead. He said this concerning the outcome of a game: "Prediction is very hard, especially when it's about the future." He and a friend were talking one day about where to go to eat. And the friend mentioned this restaurant. And he said, "No, let's not go there. That restaurant is so crowded, nobody goes there anymore."
Somebody was wanting to get directions to his house, and he was telling them how to get there. And he said, "When you come to the fork in the road, take it." Speaking of baseball, he said this: "Ninety percent of this game is half-mental." And then he tried to defend himself and said this: "I never said half the things I said." Yogi Berra. And his most famous quote: "It ain't over till it's over." That's Yogi Berra. "It ain't over till it's over." And that's so true. It ain't over till it's over.
