Last week we looked at the consequences or results of the fall of Adam, as well as the consequences of our own disobedience.

Here is a comical look at another consequence of the fall; the very first marital argument:

This morning we are going to look at the story of Cain and Abel, even though they are not a part of our spiritual heritage.
We are descendants from Seth, Adam and Eve's third son.
However, we are going to see how in just one generation things can go from bad to worse; from parents living in a perfect environment, to where one of their sons is committing murder and removed even further from God's presence.
Some of you this morning may be making this trek from bad to worse.

How can things go so badly so quickly?

First of all,

GOD REJECTS YOUR WORSHIP

Let's pick it up at the end of verse 2:

Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, and Cain a worker of the ground. In the course of time Cain brought to the LORD an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.

You may be thinking, why, or how, would God reject my worship?
That's a great question.
Let's unpack these few verses to see if we can make any sense of what I'm talking about.

We don't know why Cain and Abel felt it necessary to bring an offering to the Lord.
They are obviously acknowledging the worth of God by bringing Him offerings.

So they offer God a portion of their livelihood; Cain bringing fruit from the ground, and Abel bringing the firstborn of his flock along with the fat portions.

However, we see that the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but had no regard for Cain a ...
