Series: Jesus Our Savior - Gospel of Luke

Luke 1:46-55

As a young man Hudson Taylor became a medical assistant to prepare himself to serve the Lord as a missionary. He left England for China in 1854 before completing his medical studies. There he began preaching but was not received well. He made a decision to adopt the native Chinese clothes and pigtail with shaven forehead
so he looked like the Chinese people even though this was rare among missionaries of that time. As a result people were willing to listen to the gospel message he preached.

Taylor went on to spend a total of 51 years in China. He founded the Inland China Mission that brought over 800 missionaries to the country. These missionaries began 125 schools which resulted in 18,000 Chinese accepting Christ as their Savior. They also established more than 300 mission stations throughout the 18
Chinese provinces with more than 500 local workers to help
them minister to the Chinese people.

Truly Hudson Taylor's ministry and vision to reach the Chinese
people was a great success as God blessed his efforts over the
51 years he served as a missionary.

Taylor was scheduled to speak at a large Presbyterian church in Melbourne, Australia. The moderator of the service introduced the missionary in eloquent and glowing terms. He told the people all that Hudson had accomplished in China and then presented him as
"our illustrious (distinguished by greatness) guest."

Taylor stood quietly for a moment, and then opened his message by saying, "Dear friends, I am the servant of an illustrious Master."

When we have accomplished something significant there is a great temptation to take credit for our dedication and hard work. But we
have to remember God is to receive all the credit for what he has done with our lives, not what we have accomplished.
