Luke 9:28-36

Franklin Delano Roosevelt served as President for 12 years from 1933 to 1945, longer than any other person was been President.
He served during the greatest depression and during the greatest
war in the history of the world.

Once he became tired of the superficial smiling that accompanied the many White House receptions he hosted. On one particular evening he decided to see whether or not anyone was actually paying attention to what he said.

As he shook hands with each guest filing through the line, he smiled real big and said, "I murdered my grandmother this morning." No one even noticed. They just gave the usual protocol, "How lovely!" or "Keep up the good work."

On foreign diplomat was listening and added a little humor to
the night as well. When FDR told of his scandalous deed, the diplomat tactfully commented, "I'm sure she had it coming to her."

Listening is hearing what was said because you were paying attention. Research indicates there are three primary elements that cause us to listen. Our attention is enhanced when the topic at hand is something of value, something unusual, or something that seems threatening. If any or all of those elements are present we will most likely pay attention.

We don't listen because emotionally are minds are preoccupied with other thoughts or we are not interested in what is being said.

We don't listen because physically we are distracted by events around us or we are tired, hungry or in pain.

Pastor's are criticized for their sermons because they are to short or to long, to boring or to complicated, to personal or to doctrinal.
Someone said, "A poor listener seldom hears a good sermon."
