I Believe In A God Who Answers Prayer
Rex Yancey
Hebrews 4:14-16
I have either witnessed or heard some pretty good prayer bloopers in my ministry. I had asked one of my members to conduct prayer meeting for me while I was in revival many years ago. The report was that he did a good job except for one thing. He didn't know how to close. He fumbled around for a few minutes, saw his father-in-law on the front row, and said, "Mr. Fred, would you return thanks!"
I heard about a prayer blooper in a Lee County church. The deacons had come forward for the offering. The pastor called on one deacon to pray. He said, "Lord, would you bless this food to strengthen our bodies!"
Every religion in the world prays. That's why I have limited the scope of my title today. I don't believe in prayer; I believe in a God who answers prayer.
The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus ascended and is at the right hand of God making intercession for us. He sympathizes with us because he knows our weaknesses. He withstood the pressure of temptation. He is there to give us mercy and help us in our time of need.
Whatever you need, prayer is the answer. If you need healing, prayer is the answer. If you need uplifting, prayer is the answer. If you have loved one's who are going through a difficult time, prayer is the answer. If you lost a loved one this week, and you are walking through a time of loss and grief and sorrow, prayer is the answer. If you need a revival in your spiritual life, prayer is the answer. If you need a new zip in your walk and a new sparkle in your eye, and a touch from God, prayer is the answer.
Prayer can do anything God can do and God can do anything. Prayer is the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God's infinite grace and power. All that God is and all that God has is at the disposal of prayer.
I want us to dissect prayer this morning and learn all we can about it in a short period of time.
