No matter what you are as far as your denomination, or even if you are affiliated with a denomination, these are things that every Christian must believe. These are things that are the essentials and the fundamentals, and they are so important to us.
Last Sunday night, we talked about the Bible doctrine of sin. Tonight, we want to talk about the Bible doctrine of the new birth. John 3 is the story of the religious leader who comes to Jesus. His name is Nicodemus. In John 3:1-3, the Bible says, "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Now, I want you to put yourself in the position of Nicodemus. Although, he is a very learned man and a religious man, he is hearing something that he has never heard in all of his years of being a religious teacher and religious ruler. He is hearing about a man being born a second time.
He is completely baffled by it. He wonders if he has heard right. He wonders if he has misunderstood him. But, Jesus said to him, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." That is that he can't go to heaven. He can't be a part of Go ...
