Genesis Chapter 16 (16 of 47)
Series: The Study of The Word Of God

1 Now Sarai Abram's wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

The scene now shifts to Sarai, Abram's wife. She was barren but she had an idea to solve the problem of having a child. I like to think that she's trying to speed up the plan of God. Besides, she's not getting any younger! If Abram is going to have a child from his own loins it could just as easily come from her handmaid than her. Notice where her handmaid came from-Egypt! Because Abram already knew the plan of God and he didn't need Sarai's advice or suggestions, which obviously were not a part of God's design.

2. She said, "Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing" or better, look at me right now, I'm barren; the Lord restrained me from bearing children. This she said to reinforce the coming idea she had for Abram. This leads to another point; Sarai only focused on her present circumstances, not God's promise ...
