Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
Let's define our terms when we talk about an evil person. This particular Hebrew word means a wicked person. There is an old expression that is used, see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil. On the contrary this person is described in this way, to be evil, to do evil and to deal with evil. There are two dangers that we need to avoid when it comes to the evil person,
1.) Envy. A burning jealousy over what they have that you think you deserve.
2.) Desire to be with them. To have a strong affection or longing of the soul, which in this case will cause you to go after the wicked in order to posses and enjoy what they have.
These are the two great dangers that we face when we stop being content with what God has provided for us by His own sovereign plan (Proverbs 23:17-18).
There is still another danger that we need to face, if we decide to go after the wicked person(s); that is, we fail to see that their interest is not Godly, thus trapping ourselves. We see this in verse 2.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
The heart of the wicked ponders violence. This person is out to destroy another person through oppression. Not only do they ponder violence, but their lips speak of trouble. So many people believe that the unsaved person has only right motives in mind, especially if he or she is a nice person, by HUMAN standards. That is a pitfall that multitudes of believers fall into, the pitfall of underestimating the wickedness of those who are lost (Proverbs 16:27-30).
3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
God's wisdom, knowledge and understanding will fulfill the life of the true worshipper of Go ...
