On the subject "What Husbands Desperately Need."
In the Good News translation the verse reads like this â€" "a man should fulfill his duty as a husband and a woman should fulfill her duty as a wife and each should satisfy the other's needs." To be the
wife God wants you to be or the husband God wants you to be is a Christian calling. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ it is a great part of your commitment to the Lord. A part of living a consecrated, Christian life is understanding and meeting the needs of your mate.
Now as we look at this passage of Scripture, I am reminded of a study that was done by Dr. Harley, a renowned psychologist. He directs a network of mental health clinics in America. During the last
twenty-five years, he has been a marriage counselor and has interviewed thousands of couples. And he has discovered what he believes are the basic needs of men and the basic needs of women.
Some of these needs are more concentrated of course in men and some are more concentrated in women, but the amazing thing is
that Dr. Harley, a Christian psychologist, discovered that the Bible, the Word of God, speaks to all of those needs. Again we find the One who is the founder of marriage is the One to whom we should look for success in marriage, amen?
The basic needs of husbands and wives are not the same. And what usually happens in marriage is that men say well these are my basic needs. I know what I need out of this marriage, so she must
need the same thing. So we assume that our wives have the same needs as we do and we set out trying to meet those needs when her needs are entirely different from ours.
