Look at the first passage on your outline - "All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again, so that we are now

members of God's own family" - I Peter 1:3 ) Now here Peter is encouraging believers. These are believers who've been persecuted for their faith. Their living in the Roman time when to worship Christ

means that they'll be persecuted, imprisoned, maybe even killed. Peter reminds them of the boundless mercy of God that has given us the privilege of being born again. Now that's the Living Bible

paraphrase. I like that paraphrase in this instance. Being born again is a privilege. Being a part of God's family is a privilege. Being a part of a fellowship, a church fellowship is a privilege because fellowship is so important to the believer's life.

Look at the next verse if you will - I Timothy 3:15 "I am writing these things so you will know how to live in the family of God. That family is the church of the living God, the support and foundation of the truth."

Now that verse goes back to what I was saying earlier. The church is to be the guardian of the truth. The church is to be the support and the foundation of the truth. When the church fails to uphold the







foundation of the truth then society is going to say, "What difference does religion make? What difference does faith in Christ make? For even the church has let down its guard." He said you need to know

how to live in the family of God. Notice he uses here the family as a simile for the church, or as a metaphor for the church. Sometimes the church is ...
