Successful Ex-Cons
The Cycle Can be Broken
Dr. Duane L. Bemis

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
John 8:36 NIV

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." Matthew 25:35-36 NIV

Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:14-17 NIV

Introduction

The cycle can be broken and someone has to show them the way. There is a real enemy and he is busy trying to steal, kill, and destroy everyone he can. But Jesus said that He came to set the captive free, and to give them life and life abundant. Enclosed in this booklet are five such stories of change, hope, and new creations in Christ Jesus. Each of these men I know, and I know their personal testimonies. Change can really happen, and it just might happen for you if you listen and do as these former convicts did.

So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. Galatians 4:3-7 NIV
