INTRODUCTION: In chapter 4, following John's letters to the 7 churches, John is caught away to heaven. We believe chapter 4 represents the rapture of the church. John was part of the New Testament Church. In vs. 1, he heard the voice of a trumpet, which said, "Come up hither." I'm listening for that voice, aren't you? Paul wrote, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words"
(1 Thes. 4:16-18).

As John is taken to heaven, he is a witness to the most awesome sight. An open door is set in heaven, and there through that door, he beholds God in all his glory, sitting on His throne. He was surrounded by four and twenty elders, whom we believe to represent the church. In addition; there were four beasts, each one representing a certain characteristic of Christ--the Lion, representing His Kingship, the Calf, representing Him as a Servant, the face of a Man, representing Him as the Son of Man, and finally, the Eagle, representing His deity. As I mentioned last week, each of the four gospels are represented by one of these four creatures: Matthew (Lion), Mark (Ox), Luke (Man), and John (Eagle).

This evening, we will look at chapter 5, with the "Seven-Sealed Book." This book, or this scroll, contains the judgments of God on earth. The things written in this book are unprecedented. Other than Noah's flood, there has never been a judgment on earth equal to what will take place during the Tribulation Period. These judgments will fulfill Joel's prophecy: "The sun shall be turned into darknes ...
