Wouldn't it be wonderful if all we had to do was to show up here on Sundays to experience the power of God in our lives? The power to overcome temptation. The power to live in purity. The power to share Jesus with a friend. Just walk in .. walk out .. empowered to live for Jesus.

To have that kind of power requires more than simply showing up on Sundays .. or to simply to make up our minds to have that kind of power .. or to follow some program though it does require preparation.

That's what we find the followers of Jesus doing in the Upper Room: they were preparing for the power of God to fall upon their lives. Now you probably know what happened in Acts 2. After the Holy Spirit came and came to stay .. those followers of Jesus experienced great spiritual growth. They also saw great numerical growth as thousands repent of their sin and turned to Jesus as their savior.

What an incredible movement of God! And how we long to see that kind of power in us and among us. But not without preparation! We will never experience Acts 2 without first experiencing Acts 1.

First comes Preparation .. then comes Power. And last time together from Acts 1 .. we discovered that the preparation included ...
-the Authority of Scripture. Back to the Basics includes our getting our lives back under the authority of scripture.

Where there is rebellion against God's Word .. where there is the refusal to live under its authority ... there is the absence of the power of God. And that's true in somebody's life .. somebody's marriage ... or somebody's church.

So the way to prepare for God's power to fall upon your life begins with the authority of scripture.
