Ephesians 4:31-32
A New Year's Message
Before we begin a New Year we need to put the old year behind us. Only as we forgive others and forgive ourselves can we have a ''Happy New Year.'' So I want to talk to you today on the eve of a New Year on the subject, ''A New Beginning For A New Year.''
But in order to begin a New Year, we must first make peace with our past and the relationships that have been broken through unforgiveness.
Thank God that because of Jesus Christ and the fact that He is reaching out to us with His love, whatever has happened to us in the past can be put behind us. And today I want to talk about an absolute must if we are to recover and go on to become all that God wants us to be in our life. I want to talk about ''Restoring Broken Relationships.'' If something happened to you in your youth or in your past or in some other relationship and it continues to hurt in your heart, then that resentment, that hurt, that brokenness is in control of your life and it is on your back. And it is like a heavy burden that weighs you down. But thank God the Bible talks about how to get yesterday off your back. As we look at what God's Word has to say, let's look at Ephesians 4:31-32. Paul talks about getting yesterday off your back and what a word this is to us about recovery.
You know I like to read sometimes the corrections that newspapers make when they make a ''boo-boo'' and then they come back and make a correction. And sometimes the corrections are worse than the original error. Here is one that a paper had recorded. A picture of some very unusual dishes and it says, these are oriental dishes and were enjoyed by a party for foreign exchange students. My-Tai Pen, a foreign exchange student, was standing at the center of the picture and last week we incorrectly listed her name as one of the items on the menu! We regret this error.
