INTRO: Alright, take your Bibles now this morning and be finding your place one last time at the very first book of your Bible, the book of Beginnings and this morning we're going to be looking at and learning from Genesis chapter 35 as we talk about "Altar Endowment."
For those of you who are our guests this morning, we've been studying through the book of Genesis for the past several months and so far we've seen that the Lord created everything that is and desires that we worship Him. That's why we've spent the past 3 weeks specifically dealing with the altars and offerings of Genesis in a series of studies that we've entitled, "What's On Your Altar?" January is stewardship month and during this month we've learned about what it means to give from a faithful heart. We've learned what it means to give from a thankful heart. We've learned what it means to give from a sacrificial heart. And this morning as we come to the climax and conclusion of this series of studies here in Genesis chapter 35 we get a glimpse into a scene in the life of a man by the name of Jacob, and we are going to learn what it means to give from a reflective heart.
Now, let me just say this, there really are a lot of things that we can learn from the life of Jacob. But what you're going to have to keep in mind as we begin to delve into this man's life and walk with the Lord is this – some lessons you can learn from example, what he did right; some lesson you have to learn from his mistakes, what he did wrong. You see, that's the thing about Jacob. He wasn't always the best role-model.
ILLUS: Winston Churchill once said this about Russia in a 1939 radio broadcast to the English people, "I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."
And that's a great way to describe this man by the name of Jacob. He was ...
