A young preacher was preparing to preach his first sermon. Wanting to it to be great, he looked for a smashing introduction to set it off. He went to seek the advice of an older pastor who gave him the introduction he was looking for.
The pastor said, "Son, I have an illustration that is a guaranteed attention grabber. I have used it for years and I guarantee that it will work. When you get into the pulpit make this statement: 'Some of the best years of my life I spend in the arms of another man's wife.' Then, pause for a few seconds and say, 'My mother!' However, don't forget to pause, to create curiosity, don't forget to say 'My mother!' and whatever you do, don't forget to tell your wife what you are going to say."
The Sunday came for him to preach. He walked into the pulpit with 2 problems. One, he was extremely nervous; and, two, he forgot tell his wife what he was going to say. He cleared his throat and said, "Some of the best years of my life, I spent in the arms of another man's wife." He paused for a few seconds, but his mind went completely blank. He said it again, "Some of the best years of my life, I spent in the arms of another man's wife." He paused again, but again drew a blank.
About this time, his wife, who happened to be a hot-tempered lady, got up from her seat and began walking toward the platform.
