How to Have Hope

George Lucas created one of the most famous villains in Darth Vader but even Mr. Lucas with all of his creativity he couldn't resist the story line that there is always hope. You can go to that dark side and no matter how far, how deep you go into that dark side there is always hope for you to come back to the light, to come back to the right side. About twenty seven hundred years ago, Jeremiah who by the way is called the weeping prophet he wept over the sins of Israel because Israel simply would not straighten up. They wouldn't stop their idolatry and their immorality. They wouldn't follow God and obey God and prophet after prophet who warned them. And Jeremiah was a guy who for forty years, Sonny, imagine this, forty years he preached and no decisions. Nothing changed. Israel continued to go away from God. So he's called the weeping prophet and I'm sure that he's in conversation with God wanting a new hope for Israel, wanting another opportunity. God what can I do, I've done all I know to do and God says to Jeremiah. Jeremiah I want you to go down to the Potter's house there I want to show you something and so Jeremiah goes south of Jerusalem to Hinnom valley we get our the word for hell which is Gehenna that is that garbage dump on the south side of Jerusalem it was a cursed place where Israel worshipped false idols and they turned it in to a garbage dump where the fire burns continuously. It was also just beyond that area where the potters were, where the potters did their work. It is amazing about pottery, even to this very day, handmade pottery is still the finest pottery. It seems that machines cannot do what skilled hands of the potter can do with a piece of clay. Pottery today is made very similarly to how it was made in Jeremiah's day in fact Leigh and I have been to Williamsburg and different places where we would stand and watch. In fact L ...
