INTRODUCTION: In our lesson last week, we talked about the death of Ananias and Sapphira and how God killed them because of their lies. Like others, they had sold their land in order to assist in helping the needy; however, when they brought the money to the disciples, they kept part of it for themselves. In Acts 5:1-2, it says, "But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, [2] And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet." As Paul Harvey would say, "We know the rest of the story." God killed them both because of their deceitfulness.

They had two problems; they were selfish and they were filled with pride. They really didn't want to give the money, the just wanted people to see them give it. They wanted the attention it would bring. In Matthew 6:2, Jesus said, "Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."

In our lesson this evening, the apostles begin to perform miracles. Peter and John had just healed the lame man at the temple gate, causing quite a stir--so much so, that it caused them to be arrested. But when the religious leaders could find no fault in them, and because they feared reprisal by the people, they threatened them and let them go. Instead of retreating and running away, the disciples remained at the temple, and began performing miracles.

Let's take a look at our lesson this evening. I have two things:

II. The Healing of the Multitudes

I. THE SIGNS OF THE APOSTLES
