God Is On Your Side

Deuteronomy 3:21-22
INTRODUCTION: In the two verses of Scripture I've just read, we find Moses encouraging Joshua. A transition of leadership was about to take place; Joshua would soon have the responsibility of taking Israel the rest of the way into the Promised Land. Moses wanted Joshua to know that he had nothing to fear, that God would fight his battles: "Ye shall not fear them: for the Lord your God he shall fight for you."
Let me share a few additional verses:
a. Exodus 14:14, "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace."
b. 2 Chron. 20:17, "Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you."
c. Psalm 44:3, "For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them."
d. 2 Chron. 20:29, "And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel."
There are three things I want to say about fighting battles:
I. Don't Try to Fight Your Own Battles
II. Don't Let Others Fight for You
III Let God Fight be Your Defense
I. DON'T TRY TO FIGHT YOUR OWN BATTLES

Let me share with you a classic example of what can happen when people attempt to fight their own battles. The setting for this passage of Scripture is Israel in unbelief and rebellion. God had warned them not to go against their enemies. Please turn to Numbers 14:41-45, "And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the Lord? but it shall not prosper. [42] Go not up, for the Lord is no ...
