Two young boys were spending the night at their grandparents' house. At bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers. The youngest one began praying at the top of his lungs, "I PRAY FOR A NEW BICYCLE. I PRAY FOR A NEW NINTENDO. I PRAY FOR A NEW VCR..."

His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said, "Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn't deaf." To which the little brother replied, "No, but Grandma is!"

Often times, when we pray, we may wonder if God is deaf because we do not receive an answer, or the answer we desired. Yet, God has promised that if "Call unto" Him, He will "answer" us. However, we often forget that "NO" is an answer.

In fact, there appears to be many occurrences in the Bible where God says "No" to different prayers.

God can respond to our prayers in 4 ways. He can give us a definite answer. He can give us a delayed answer. He can give us a different answer. Or, He can give us a denied answer.

In the text before us, God gives David a denied answer. He specifically says "No" to David's prayer, and it commands us to notice 3 things.

1. The REQUEST Given to God!

[1 Chron. 17: 1-2]

These verses depict the basis of David's prayer. This is one of the most descriptive, and delightful prayers in all of Scripture. He prayed:
