Philippians 1.1-6

Tonight .. we are beginning a new series of messages from the book of Philippians under the heading: JOY FOR THE JOURNEY. And I want to encourage you to join me on these Sunday nights with your Bible in one hand and a notepad in the other hand as we learn together about this JOY FOR THE JOURNEY God has for every one of His children.
I don't know about you .. but sometimes I get Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians mixed up when I'm trying to find them. So let me pass something along to you that may help you in finding these four books:

Galatians .. Philippians .. Ephesians .. Colossians. Now if you cannot remember that .. just find the table of contents and the page the book is found on and then turn to it.
I hope by now you have found the book of Philippians. Let me tell you one reason I enjoy this little 4 chapter book so much: it is a book about J O Y! Joy! And from this little book .. we're going to learn the secret and the source and even the strength of joy!
Is your life marked by joy? Are you known as a joyful person? When I was growing up .. we use to sing a little chorus: "I've got the joy .. joy .. joy .. joy down in my heart ... where? ... down in my heart! where? Down in my heart. I've got the joy .. joy .. joy .. joy down in my heart. Down in my heart to stay."
Can you sing that tonight .. and mean it? Is there that incredible .. life-changing ... joy down in your heart? Can you say along with the Psalmist in Psalm 16.11, "You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
"In Your presence is fullness of joy." And listen to Galatians 5.22 as Paul begins listing off the fruit of the Spirit, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace ..."
