Ephesians 5:18 (NIV)
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
We've looked at a lot regarding the Spirit Filled life these past weeks.
Let me highlight a couple things...
First, the filling of the spirit is given to
each and every person who receives Jesus Christ
as Savior and Lord.
It's not withheld for a later gift...
it's not given because we do something,
or mumble some unknown words...
in other words, speaking in tongues has nothing to do with
being filled with the spirit...
the Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit the very moment
he or she receives Jesus by faith.
We've also discovered, though, that in order
to have the power of the Holy Spirit of God Who resides in us
to be empowering us,
as well as helping us overcome defeat and discouragement,
we must yield our lives to Jesus, over and over and over. 24/7.
Then we saw that we've got to accept
the Promises of God as truth on faith,
and then we also must know what those promises are,
which means we've got to read our Bibles.
And as we accept on faith God's Promises,
and we more and more Yield to Jesus,
we'll experience God more and more...
we'll love Jesus more and more,
we'll display more of the fruits of the spirit in our lives,
and our prayers will evidence more power
and we'll be more bold in our living lives that show Christ and in our verbal witness of our Lord.
So, today as we begin, and as we look at our passage,
which says, ‘be filled with the Spirit,'
does that mean that there are more than
one occasion upon which we're filled?
The answer is both no, and yes...
it's no, because we only get the Holy Spirit one time...
again, we know that He is given to us,
and comes to reside in us upon the moment of our salva ...
