Isaiah: The King Is Coming

An old frontier explorer traveled westward across the Great Plains. He turned south at the foothills of the Rockies and then back west into the desert region of the Southwest. In the middle of nowhere, without warning, he found himself at the edge of the Grand Canyon. He looked at the unimaginably huge chasm. He had never seen anything like it—a mile deep, eighteen miles across, and more than a hundred miles long! "Wow," he gasped, "Something musta happened here!"
A visitor from another world who stepped into ours at this time of year might have a similar reaction. Christmas is like no other time. Lights, decorations, parades and festivities are everywhere. Some of it is religious. Some of it isn't. Yet all of it could cause a stranger to react, "Something must have happened here." Something did happen! Something big! (James S. We know what happened, don't we? Christmas is not about Santa's, reindeer, snowmen, lighted trees, or even shopping and gift giving. The followers of the Babe of Bethlehem see beyond the festivities. We know what it is really all about. Something big happened two thousand years ago. Christmas is about Christ!

As I have done on numerous occasions before, I am going to take you on a journey through time. As always, I will speak from the Bible. But during these Christmas messages I will tell the story of Christmas through the eyes of someone who was there or at least nearby. I will become a character from the pages of the Bible and present the message in the first person. My voice will become his.
I will need your help. Our process will require some imagination. Children are good at this. Adults sometimes have to work a little harder. There will be no costumes, no props, or special effects like you might see in a play or a movie. Your imagination will provide all of that. To tell the trut ...
