A Defining Moment

Now as we prepare to share in the Lord's Supper tonight ... join me in 1 Corinthians 11. In a moment .. we're going to begin reading in verse 17. When Jesus established the Lord's Supper .. He intended this to be a defining moment for His disciples.
Life is changed forever by defining moments. I thought back this week over a few of the defining moments in my life:
*1967: I choose to repent of my sin and receive Jesus Christ as my savior. That decision shaped the whole direction of my life.
*1974: I surrendered my life to full time Christian ministry. Another defining moment that determined my vocation.
* 1979: Julie and I were married .. and let me tell you tonight: that friend was a defining moment in the life of Ernest Easley.
Let me fast forward to one more defining moment in my life:
*January 6, 2002: when I accepted your invitation to move from Texas to serve as your pastor! Defining moments! Those moments that we make life-altering decisions. They determine where we live .. who we marry .. where we go to college: defining moments.
Now when Jesus established the Lord's Supper .. He intended it to be a defining moment .. a spiritual revival for those at the table. Tonight .. we need a defining moment in our life and church just as those early disciples as well as the early church needed a defining moment in their life
I'm talking about each of us making a decision regarding our relationship with God. I'm talking about tonight being a reference point .. a night that we can refer back to as THE NIGHT that our disposition changed .. our desire changed .. our disobedience changed .. our dissatisfaction changed .. our distrust changed.
