When Faith Ends in Sight! (9 of 13)

The African impala is one of the most powerful and graceful animals in Africa. It can jump to a height of more than 10 feet and cover a distance of more than 30 feet in one jump. In spite of its great ability, an impala can be kept in an enclosure with a solid fence no more than three feet high. Impalas will not jump if they can't see where their feet will land. Impalas walk by sight, not by faith.
The book of Joshua is divided into 2 main parts: the conquest of Canaan, and the dividing of Canaan. Chapters 1-12 deal with the conquest of the land, and Chapters 13-24 deal with the dividing of the land.
The story of the conquest ends with Joshua 12. Thus, as you come to Joshua 13 we see that faith finally ends in sight. In other words, what had been promised to Abraham in Genesis 17 now becomes a reality. God had promised this land to His people, and now God presents this land to His people.
The best way to understand Joshua 11-19 is by breaking it down into 3 main categories of years. The first begins in Joshua 11 as we see:
1. Years of FAITHFULNESS!
It doesn't take long to study the book of Joshua to learn that Israel was not always faithful to God, but God was always faithful to Israel. In spite of Israel's repeated unfaithfulness their leader, Joshua, remained faithful, for the most part, in his endeavor to lead the people to the land God had promised to them.
