In this wonderful time of the year when we are celebrating the birth of Christ and all around us we see the Christmas story being portrayed, there is a tremendous tendency to get caught up in the story of how Jesus came into this earth and to forget who Jesus really is.
We focus so much on the story of Mary and Joseph and the babe and how the wise men came from the East to worship Him, and how the angelic hosts announced to the shepherds the fact of His birth that many people miss the real point of Christmas.
I believe at this time of the year we have a wonderful opportunity to focus upon the person of Christ and pose the question, who is this Jesus who was born of a virgin two thousand years ago in Bethlehem?
Who is this Jesus who divides human history into B.C. and A.D.? Who is this Jesus whose birth is celebrated as the birth of no other great person? this is a question which was raised many times by the disciples themselves.
In Matthew 8:27, they said "What manner of man is this that even the winds and the sea obey him..."
Who is Jesus? This is a question raised by our Lord Himself many times in His earthly ministry.
In Matthew 16:13, the Bible says, "When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked of his disciples saying, Whom do men say that I the son of man am? And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some Elias, and others Jeremiah or one of the Prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."
What is most the important thing you could know about Jesus Christ? Someone said, "Oh, if you could just know His teachings, then you could order your life by the teachings of Christ, and so the most important thing to know is His teachings."
