The Psalmist declared in Psalm 127: 3, "Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Without question, anyone who has children would agree that children bring light to a dark, dismal, and depressing world.
I think of a little girl who sent a note to her pastor that read, "Dear Pastor, I heard you say to love your enemies. I am only 6 and do not have any yet. I hope to have some when I am seven."
Another little boy brought home his report card heavy with very poor grades. His mother asked him, "What do you have to say for yourself." He said, "One thing is for sure. At least you know I'm not cheating."
I read of the little boy who asked his mother where he came from, and she proceeded to give a tall tale about a beautiful white-feathered bird. He ran into the next room and asked the same thing of his grandmother, and received a variation on the bird story. He ran outside and told his playmate, "You know, there hasn't been a normal birth in our family for 3 generations."
One of my favorite stories is about the little guy who strutted through the backyard, baseball cap in place, toting his bat and ball. He said, "I am the greatest hitter in the world." He tossed the ball into the air, swung and missed it. He shouted, "Strike One!" He tossed the ball in the air again, swung and missed it. He shouted, "Strike Two!"
