I wonder how many of you have ever been wounded. How many have ever had a broken bone? How many have ever had stitches? How many have ever had a knife wound? I'm not going to ask about gunshot wounds. By the way, did you see all these hands that went up? That's why our insurance is so high. All you folks have been hurt and been sick.

Today, I want to talk about wounds, but I don't want to talk about the physical wounds that you can see. I want to talk about the hidden wounds. The hidden wounds that all of us carry in our hearts and our lives because God is not only interested in healing us of physical suffering but He's also interested in healing us of the wounds we cannot see; the wounds that are hurtful memories that many of us have carried for a long time. Many times the wounds are very deep and we may have a smile on the outside and go right on with life, but on the inside we are hurting. On the inside we are suffering. God sees and cares about those hidden wounds.

One of the hidden wounds that is so hurtful to us, that causes us so much pain is the wound that I want to talk about this morning. It is the hidden wound called, ''bitterness.'' It is a hurt that we have carried with us for a long time. It may have been caused because we were abused as a child. It may have been caused because of something someone said about us or something someone said to us. It might have been caused by an unpleaseable parent or mate. It may have been caused by a divorce or it may have been caused because of some person who turned against us. There is so many reasons that we have hidden wounds deep inside and on the inside we are hurting. If these wounds continue without being healed, they turn into a wound, the Bible calls ''bitterness.''

Bitterness can divide homes. Bitterness can destroy marriages. Bitterness can blow the candle of joy out of the light of life. Bitternes ...
