INTRO:
Series .... THE FINAL WORD .... examining the 7 sayings of Jesus on the Cross!

(A) While Jesus was doing His greatest work .... dying on the cross for the sins of the world .... He uttered some of His greatest statements.

(B) It is Jesus summing up why He came .... giving us His Final Word on what matters.
1- Jesus did appear to His disciples after His resurrection .... to teach them about carrying the gospel to the world.
2- But nowhere in Scripture do you find a better summary of what Jesus came to do .... than from His own lips as He is dying on the cross.
* This is the Last Testament of Jesus Christ before He dies -- it is Jesus saying, "This is what matters .... this is why I came."

(C) Why did God cause His Son to be crucified between 2 thieves?
.... To give us a powerful picture of the drama of salvation.
1- Here we see the Savior offering salvation .... and man's response to the Savior's offer.
2- As part of that drama we see one man rejecting salvation and one receiving salvation.
3- One of those 2 men represents you .... You choose which one .... that makes this a very personal picture.

-- In His Final Word on Salvation, Jesus gives us the 4 steps of salvation that impact you personally.

1- Everyone -- mocking Jesus on the cross .... even the 2 thieves join in.

a- Both unite with the enemies of Jesus and attack Him.
b- Both are very evil men .... Roman law rarely crucified men just for stealing .... They had to have done something much worse.
