INTRO:
(A) Series... THE PRACTICE OF PERSONAL PEACE ...
1- Summer time -- a great time to slow down and depressurize your life ... a great time to work on gaining personal peace ...something we all need!
2- How do we get this peace?
Phil. 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
a- Genuine, personal peace comes through the Practice of Prayer.
* The more you pray, the more peace you have ... the less you pray, the less peace you have... you can either PRAY or WORRY as you go through life.
b- How do we pray so that we can be assured of having this peace?
c- Jesus gave us a guide ... a model ... a pattern to show us how to pray ... we call it The Lord’s Prayer ... the beginner’s prayer!
d- The Lord’s Prayer consists of 8 phrases ... each phrase addresses a different need that we have ... that we must deal with to have peace within us!
3- We are going to look at each of these phrases as we use the Lord’s Prayer not only as our guide for praying ... but as our guide for living.
a- First ... THE PRAYER TO BELONG ... 1st phrase ... "Our Father in heaven"
... we were made to belong to God’s family ("Our") ... to God as our "Father" ... and to a home in the future ... heaven."!
* You were made to belong to God and His family and in heaven, God’s home.
b- 2nd ... THE PRAYER OF RESPECT ... "Hallowed be Your name." ... When we respect and worship God ("Hallowed") ... we find everything we need in His name!
c- Now ... THE PRAYER OF SUBMISSION
