Joshua 6:15-27

INTRO:

(A) Ever slept in a sagging bed? .... End up in the middle in a ball.


(B) Stuart Brisco .... the life of an average Christian could be compared to an old iron bed -- firm on both ends but sagging in the middle.
1- Many Christians .... firm on the front end.
a- I.E. We realize we're saved.
b- Firm on the other end ....
c- We know we're going to heaven when we die.

2- Too few of us are having a heavenly time getting there.
a- Stumbling .... over obstacles .... strongholds.
b- Wondering: "Where's the joy?"
c- God never intended Christian walk to be one of discouragement, darkness, or defeat .... but a walk of victory.
3- Why are so many Christians struggling .... defeated?
4- Because Satan places strongholds/obstacles in our paths.
* We will never live in victory until we learn to conquer these strongholds.
* That's how we unlock the joy!

(C) Children of Israel .... in the Promised Land -- represent the Spirit-filled life.
1- Encounter Jericho .... a stronghold of the enemy .... closed up!
2- As we start to live in the Spirit-filled -- we, too, encounter obstacles that we must conquer.


(D) Unlocking the Joy:
(Vs. 1) I. THE CONFESSION OF OUR STRONGHOLD
(Vs. 4) .... We must acknowledge areas in our lives that are closed to God.
(Vs. 2-7) II. THE CONFRONTATION OF OUR STRONGHOLD .... We must confront these strongholds by accepting, on faith, God's direction as our only hope for unlocking our joy.
-- "present (my) body" ! -- Subconscious mind!
(Vs. 8-14) III. THE CHALLENGE OF OUR STRONGHOLD
.... As we confront these strongholds, our willingness to continue to obey God will be challenged: (Discipline and Perseverance).
