Joshua 3:1-8
INTRO:
(A) We have some unique ways of expressing what it's like to face an impossible situation:
.... We talk about:
-- going from bad to worse
-- jumping from the frying pan into the fire
-- between a rock and a hard place
-- Someone says, "Cheer up, things could get worse" --
so you cheer up and things get worse.
(B) Everyone faces impossible situations at some time in his life:
1- Some we don't cause:
-- Breakup of a relationship that you knew would last you for a lifetime.
-- Facing a challenge for which there seems to be no solution.
-- Attempts to reach a rebellious child ....
-- Financial setbacks you had no way of foreseeing ....
-- A friend who stabs you in the back ....
-- The loss of a job ....
-- A sudden health crisis ....
-- Watching your parents grow older and less alert ....
-- Experiencing the effects of aging yourself.
2- Some we do cause:
-- Unloving spirit
-- Jealousy, pride
-- A habit that can't be broken
-- Lust, passion
-- A harsh judgment of others
-- A complaining spirit
-- Feelings that snap with the slightest touch
-- Selfishness
3- All -- impossible situations .... whether they were forced upon us or we forced them upon ourselves.
4- We all face them -- but God never intends for them to do us in.
Prov. 24:10 "If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small."
a- Good News Bible paraphrase:
"If you are weak in a crisis, you are weak indeed."
