Israel, in short, had an easier time than we do with the "us and them" scenario. In fact, three times in the opening couple of verses of Psalm 137 the psalmist throws in the loaded word "there." God intended for them to be his conduit. These Israelites had the ministry of reconciliation. They knew Jehovah and they could have said we want you to know Him. You need to be reconciled to Him. They could have sung the song in a strange land and they could have shouted the victory.
They could have done their worship and they could have share their faith but their temple was gone therefore our faith is gone, their treasures were gone therefore our faith is gone.
Our nation has become a strange land because for the first time the terrorist have got the kind of weapons that can destroy the whole human race.
It is a strange land when two little boys are kidnapped while playing in front of their homes. It is strange land when practically on every street corner there are mind altering and addictive drugs available to whosoever will.
It is a strange land when men want to married men and women want to marry women
And it is a strange land when better than fifty percent of all of our marriages end up in divorce.
