THE MOTHER OF ALL SINS (2 OF 2)
The Mother of All Sins (2 of 2)

Obadiah
Now let's see how well you remember the answers to last weeks Bible Trivia. How many one- chapter books are there in the Bible? 5. There is 1 in the Old Testament and 4 in the New Testament. And who can name these 5 one-chapter books?
Obadiah, Philemon, 2 John, 3 John, Jude!
These 5 books remind me of emails: they get to the point! No chasing rabbits. No long stories. No rambling. Just the facts! They cut to the chase!
Well, God has 5 emails for us throughout the Bible. The tragedy is that they are often overlooked. Last Sunday night after worship, a man came up to me and said, "Pastor, my Bible is marked up with study notes and sermon notes. But I noticed that I don't have any study or sermon notes covering these 5 one-chapter books. Thank you for preaching them."
I think that would be true for most of us! These 5 one-chapter books have been neglected! Yet, they are as inspired as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John! And that's one reason I want to spend several Sunday nights on what I'm calling: Emails.com.
Tonight we are picking up where we left off last Sunday night in the OT book of Obadiah, the shortest book in the Old Testament with only 21 verses!
God gave the prophet Obadiah a vision concerning Edom. We find that in verse 1, "The vision of Obadiah, Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom .." And found within Obadiah's vision, we find:
"The Mother of All Sins"
Obadiah 1-4
Now who was Edom and the Edomites? Well, do you remember those brothers named Jacob and Esau born to Isaac and Rebekah? Well, we read in Genesis 25.23, "And the Lord said to her, 'Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall serve the younger." Through Esau came the Edomites and through Jacob came the Israelites.
Those two boys were born to the same parents, grew up in the same home and yet, were very different. ...
