INTRODUCTION: As we pick up our study of the Beatitudes, we come to lesson number six, or the 6th blessing: ''Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.'' With that, let us consider our main two points:
I. BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART
A. A special people
1. Who are the people Jesus is referring to? Who are the ''pure in heart''? They are a select group-a special people. Do you mean Jesus has favorites? You bet! Yes, Jesus has favorites. These are the people who have repented of their sins and have received Him as their Savior. Remember, in (4:17), He commanded people to repent. In (4:23), He went throughout the region preaching the Gospel. What is the Gospel? The word Gospel means good news. The good news is that Jesus saves! Brother, I can tell you, there is no better news than salvation and forgiveness in Christ.
a. By the way, every person-regardless of whom he may be, can join this special group-this pure in heart group. It requires one thing: turning to Christ. In Galatians 3:26, it says, For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
1) When a man turns to Christ, Jesus cleanses His heart from sin-He gives him a new heart, a pure heart: Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean. From all your filthiness...will I cleanse you. [26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:25-26).
B. A changed people
1. A man cannot enter the kingdom of God unless he has been made fit for the kingdom of God. Heaven is no place for the sinner, only for the pure in heart. By the way, a sinner would be a miserable wreck in heaven-people who enter heaven will no longer be controlled by vices and bad habits. Lust will not exist; there will be no greed or selfishness...n ...
