I said to you last week that Jeremiah could well be called a prophet to the nations. In chapters 46 to the conclusion of his prophecy, we find this to be true.

In chapter 46, for instance, it begins by saying, ''The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah, the prophet, against the Gentiles.'' Then you have a series of messages from God to various nations, chapters 46 through4 49.

Then when we get to chapter 50 where he specifically addresses the nation of Babylon. It is one of the most remarkable prophecies in all of the Word of God. It is a prediction, a prophecy, of the fall of the nation of Babylon. We'll study that in chapters 50 through 51.

Chapter 52 is a chapter that has to do with the historical account of the destruction of the city of Jerusalem, the capture of Jerusalem by Babylon, the carrying away into the land of Babylon, and the burning of the city of Jerusalem. Tie that to the book we are going to study next week, Lamentations. Jeremiah 52 is the historical account of the destruction of the city of Jerusalem. Then when you get to the book of Lamentations, you have a funeral song lamenting the death of the city of Jerusalem or its destruction.

I'm going to call the message next Wednesday night, ''A funeral song for a prodigal nation.'' There is a message in the book of Lamentations which needs to be heard and which needs to be understood, and I'll share that with you next week.

Before we go into that, he's going now to deal with the nation of Babylon. Keep in mind that God had specifically used the nation of Babylon to judge His own people. That's what Jeremiah had said and that's what Jeremiah had predicted would take place.

There is remarkable prophecy in these verses and there are a lot of verses in these two chapters. In fact, if you add up the two chapters, you will find that he devotes 110 verses to this prediction of the downfall of the city of Bab ...
