1. Someone has said that you are the same today as you will be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read. It was while a student in Bible College that I fell in love with biographies. From the day when I pulled from the shelf a biography on the life of Billy Sunday, biographies have played an important role in my life and have occupied much of my reading. I confess that a biography is a constant companion of mine.
2. Through biographies I have met so many wonderful people. Through biographies I have walked with giants. Through biographies I have been privileged to listen too many of the soldiers of the cross as they stood in their pulpits and preached. I have even shared those intimate and sacred moments in their studies while they prayed. In biographies I have been privately mentored by finest teachers the world has ever known.
3. Through biographies I have attended the service on Aldersgate Street when John Wesley was converted. I have sat beside Spurgeon in a little Primitive Methodist Church and listened to a deacon declare, "Look unto me and be ye saved." I have walked to the pulpit with G. Campbell Morgan, looked out a cobbler's shop window with William Carey, shouted and danced with Billy Bray, prayed with John Hyde and felt the fires of revival with Jonathan Edwards and Evan Roberts.
