INTRODUCTION:

This evening I want us to spend a little time on the important subject of prayer. The Lord said, "I will that men pray everywhere."

The disciples said, Lord, teach us to pray..."

QUOTE: George Mueller of Bristol, said, "Prayer and faith are the universal remedies against every want and every difficulty."

PURPOSE: The purpose of our lesson tonight is to help us better understand that prayer must have a central place in the life of every Christian, not just the reciting of a memorized petition between daily activities, but rather, a dedicated commitment to talk to God from our hearts, in order that we might know Him better and receive those things necessary to our spiritual and physical well-being.

I. DEFINITE CONDITIONS

Here is a question: Does God answer every person's prayer? There are two kinds of prayer: The prayer that reaches God and the prayer that does not.

Consider four things--four conditions, if you will, to answered prayer:

A. A salvation experience

1. The person praying must be saved (John 9:31)

a. Prov. 15:2, "The Lord is far from the wicked, but He heareth the prayer of the righteous."

B. A clean heart (Psa. 66:18)

C. A believing faith

1. The believer must have faith that God will answer prayer (Heb. 11:6).

a. Two ways to have more faith: Study God's Word, and exercise the faith you have.

D. A submissive spirit
