INTRODUCTION:
1. Our lesson this evening has to do with the resurrection
of the human body--how it raised and what it will be like when it is raised. I want to give you three important points to our outline:
I. Engaging the Question
II. Explaining the Difference
III. Encouraging the Brethren
I. ENGAGING THE QUESTION (VV. 35-38)
A. The old body returns to the earth (vs. 37)
1. Like bare grain, the old body is sown in the
ground. Paul compares it to wheat or some other kind of grain. We are reminded of the words found in John 12:24, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit."
B. The new body comes from God (vs. 38)
1. When, for example, a tiny tomato seed is sown
in the ground, it brings forth a plant, which will eventually bear a large, beautiful tomato. God does that. And just as He gives a new body to that tomato seed, so also, He will give a new physical body to the person who has been placed in the earth (vs. 38)
a. By the way, aren't you glad we aren't going
to be stuck with these worn out old bodies for eternity?
HUMOR: This 85 year old couple, having been married almost 60 years, had died in a car crash. They had been in good health the last ten years mainly due to her interest in health food, and exercise.
When they reached the pearly gates, St. Peter took them to their mansion which was decked out with a beautiful kitchen and master bath suite and Jacuzzi. As they "oohed and aahed" the old man asked Peter how much all this was going to cost.
"It's free," Peter replied, "this is Heaven."
Next they went out back to survey the championship golf course that the home backed up to. They would have golfing privileges everyday and each week the course change ...
