Ephesians 2:11 – 22
Introduction:
Mystery of Oneness
The secret of these verses cannot be applied without realizing that we must belong to each other.
True Christian life cannot be fully realized unless I am a member of God's family.
It cannot happen alone.
Aloneness breeds:
Selfishness
Depression
Fear
Anxiety
Loneliness
Lack of fulfillment and purpose
Immaturity etc.
We need one anther whether we like it or not!
One another is used in the New Testament 34 times.
The "One Anothers" of Fellowship
(Partial List)
Serve one another Gal. 5:13
Accept one another Rom 15:7
Forgive one another Col. 3:13
Greet one another Rom. 16:16
Bear one another's burdens Gal. 6:2
Be devoted to one another Rom. 12:10
Honor one another Rom. 12:10
Teach one another Rom 15:14
Submit to one another Eph. 5:21
Encourage one another 1 Thess. 5:11
Illus. Families Paul uses this analogy to help us understand that the concept of togetherness is not foreign to us.
I. Strangers made family 2:11,12.
Paul is writing to Church in Ephesus.
Made up mostly of Gentiles but also comprised of Jews.
Acts 19:8-10
8 Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. 9 But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus. 10 This went on for two years, so that all the Jews and Greeks who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord. NIV
What the Gentiles were without Christ.
11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)-
