Joshua 5:1-9
Introduction:
"This people has a God of Miracles with them"
That was the word that was on the street on that day!
We read it in the first verse!
1 Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the LORD had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until we had crossed over, their hearts melted and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites.
With no heart to resist the Canaanites were easy prey!
Humanly speaking now was the moment to strike!
Victory was in the air!
But God said No! "Wait"
Wait? Why Wait?
Seize the moment!
Opportunity knocks!
Strike while the iron's hot!
The mind is flooded with human proverbs on "getting what is yours"!
But it's God's call and it is subject to God's timing!
There is some unfinished business to deal with!
2 At that time the LORD said to Joshua, "Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again."
Here is a moment when Joshua's military sense told him to press the advantage! To retain the initiative!
But God said there is some unfinished business to deal with!
"Circumcision"
It is surprising that during their forty year traveling threw the wilderness the. Israelites had not circumcised their young.
They knew of God's confrontation with Moses on the subject.
You remember Moses commissioning at the burning bush?
A shake up had happened in his soul.
He became obedient to God 's call.
Shortly his family packed up and was in route to his assignment in Egypt.
Then God met him in what was a virtual duel unto death.
The sin of Moses, was neglecting to circumcise his son.
This was probably the effect of his being unequally yoked with a Midianite.

24 At a lodging place on the way, the LORD met [Moses] and was about to kill him.(NIV)
