The Necessity of Prayer

The Bible talks to us about prayer and the necessity of it!
We need to begin to learn to pray effectively if we are going to see the results that we need from God!
There is no magic to prayer but there is a process and protocol.
I. Why are we to pray?
God commands us to pray. The New Testament makes many commands for us to pray. Here are a few things we should pray for:
A. Pray because we are vulnerable to the enemy.
Mark 14:38
38. Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The
spirit is willing, but the body is weak."(NIV)
Pray against the temptations of the enemy!
B. Pray because we are vulnerable to others!
Luke 6:28
28 "bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.(NKJ)
Pray to overcome those that use you
C. Pray because God orders the steps of men!
Matt 9:38
38 "Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His
II. What Should we Pray for!
Pray for Everything
Phil 4:6
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;(NKJ)
Supplication
Supplication includes our petition for our own needs and intercession for others. As you talk to God,:
Pray that your inner-person may be renewed.
Pray about your problems,
Pray for wisdom, for guidance, for strength, to resist temptation.
Pray for comfort in the time of sorrow.
Pray for Healing
James 5:16
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (NIV)
Pray for others.
-your spouse
-your parents
-your children
-your neighbors
-your friends
Pray for those in authority over you.
1 Tim 2:1-2
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--
