Working out Forgiveness

Matthew 6:12-15

Introduction:

The corrective value of forgiveness is a must in each of our lives as a Christian.
Jesus taught about this essential value in my Scripture reading.
It is necessary for you physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental life and health.

Forgiveness is essential to being healthy. Why?

A. A nagging guilt from consciously disobeying God's Word.
B. Anger, Hurt resentment and bitterness festers and grows in the spirit of unforgiveness.

Hebrews 12:15
15 See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.(NIV)

C. Refuse to trust in other close relationships and it causes loneliness and separation.

Until a person forgives those who have wronged him he is preoccupied or bound to those people whom he hasn't forgiven.

In that great Chapter of Matthew 18 that deals with relationships Jesus applied this principal

Matt 18:18-19
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Look at what happens!
A. He repeatedly relives the pain.
B. He cannot get on with his life.
C. Continued resentment and anger spoil more and more of the unforgiving persons life in the present and in the future.
D. Until you deal with your feelings against your brother or sister you have not dealt with the greatest of your sins....Defiling the Lord's body!

1 Cor 11:27-31
27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
